Places & Spaces I love: The Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy

Confession time: I’m sick of typical hotels with their boring cliche interiors. Lloyd Hotel, upon stumbling upon it on the internet, was an immediate 10/10 in my book. There are quite a few things the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy can brag about: they’re the first 1-to-5 star design hotel in the world, the hotel has a rich interesting history, and they’ve got absolutely beautiful comfy rooms that just can’t be beat.   The Lloyd Hotel first opened in the 1920’s, built by the Royal Dutch Lloyd on the IJ-Quay from which their ships departed. Since its opening, the Lloyd Hotel went from being an emmigrant hotel to becoming a refugee center, detention center, juvenile detention center, and artist studios. In November 2014, it was turned into the 1-to-5 star designer hotel we see today. My room at the Lloyd Hotel is situated in the 6th floor of the building, includes a swing in the middle of the room and a bathtub on the left side. You can say I was a smitten kitten.
